Prof. Phanithi Prakash Babu

Prof. Prakash Babu received Graduation from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Masters from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and Ph.D from University of Hyderabad. Subsequently completed Post-Doctoral training from Research Institute for Brain and Blood Vessels, Japan and Kings College, London, U.K. His main research interests are Cerebral Ischemia/ Ischemic stroke, Glioma, Meningioma and Cerebral Malaria. He has guided 22 doctoral students, 4 Post-Doctoral students and is currently supervising 8 Ph.D. students and 2 Post-Doctoral students. He has served many administrative positions in University of Hyderabad such as the ProVice-Chancellor and Dean, School of Medical Sciences. He currently serves as the Co founder & Executive Director of ORDI (Organization for Rare Diseases India), an Umbrella organization that represents 7000+ diseases in India.

He has been instrumental in bringing the Rare Disease issue at the national level and advocating from the past 15 years.

His significant contributions have won him several laurels including the 2018 Ashoka Fellow and the Rare Champion of Hope 2019 from Global Genes USA.

Twice nominated for The Hindu Business Line Change Maker Award in 2019 and 2020.
